Why We Built It
Printed directory evidence still exists, but it is scattered. Ownership belongs with the Kanawha County Assessor and County Clerk. Voter information is governed by West Virginia law. Polk volumes are held at the Kanawha County Public Library Main Library, and older land, vital, newspaper, and court series lead to the State Archives. We bring the verified search routes, office contacts, coverage notes, and access limits into one Dunbar reference.
What the Reference Includes
- Pages by angle: the Dunbar street directory for address records, the Dunbar city directory for the historical shelf, and the Dunbar resident lookup for one-person searches
- The rolls and offices: assessor, recorder, elections office, court clerk, vital records, the library's local history collection
- Walkthroughs: how to trace who lives on a street, how to read a directory entry, how to follow a household across the decades
- Access rules: what West Virginia law opens, what stays closed, and how a focused records request works when no index is online
Limits on Our Role
This is a privately run reference site. It is not connected with the City of Dunbar, Kanawha County, West Virginia, any court, or any library. These limits apply:
- We cannot confirm whether a specific person currently lives in Dunbar
- We cannot pull, certify, or change any record on your behalf
- We cannot add anyone to, or remove anyone from, any roll or database
- We cannot give legal advice about a record or a dispute
- We cannot promise that every coverage year, link, or office detail here is current at this moment
Only the custodian office can confirm, certify, or correct a record. Nothing found through this site may be used for credit, employment, tenant, or insurance decisions.
